Reading beside the fire : Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A Scandal in Bohemia.

During these cold nights of February, when the strong wind hits the windows and opens the doors, some strange noises  suggest that there is someone else there. Probably... and you can also listen to the rain outside, then it's time to turn off the TV, turn off cell phones, and it's time to light the fire,  and then some images can come to you,  they came to me  from one of the Sherlock Holmes stories, "A Scandal in Bohemia " and then I took the book, I sat down beside the fire and I started to read and  remember...

A Scandal in Bohemia was the first of Arthur Conan Doyle's  56 Sherlock Holmes short stories.
But, who was exactly Sherlock Holmes ?... He is a fictional detective created by the scottish author and physicien Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a graduated of the University Edimburgh Medical School.
Holmes is famous for his astute logical reasoning, his ability to disguise and his use of forensic science skills to use in difficult cases.

In this wonderful novel, I think that is better you read it than explain you the plot, there is a woman sharper and more clever than Sherlock Holmes, this is Irene Adler.

I just tell you that Ms. Irene Adler had a love affair  years ago with Wilhem  Gottsreich Sigismond von Ormstein, Grand Duke of Cassel-Felstein, and hereditary King of Bohemia, now this King is about to be married with the second daughter of the King of Scandinavia, and he is afraid that his past love affair can be discovered, as Ms. Irene Adler has exchanged some love letters  and a special  picture, which may endanger his wedding with the Lady.

His Majesty asks for help to Sherlock Holmes, and the detective plans a complicate plot in order to retrieve the picture and the letters, but Irene Adler will be sharper and faster than Sherlock Holmes. She discovered his plan, and she got married with Godfrey Norton, her love, and they left  in the early morning from England for the continent...

It's very nice to notice how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle recognizes in this novel the higher female intelligence as only the very intelligent men can do.

This is a wonderful novel to enjoy in a cold days beside the fire.
