Reading on the terrace : Oscar Wilde. The Canterville Ghost.

The spring is here, and I'm very eager to read on the terrace.  But,
¿what is the best moment to read ?
a moment can be before breakfast, at dawn, the sea is calm, the morning sun can be your heating, and probably nobody will bother you while you read at this time and on weekend. But you can find other moments to read on the terrace, in the lunch break, at sunset...these are just a few exemples.

Oscar Wilde said :

"Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead".
Oscar Wilde.

Oscar Wilde (16 October 1854 -30 November 1900) was born in Ireland. Well know for his bitting wit, extravagant dress and glittering conversations. As a spokesman for aestheticism. He published poems, novels, essays... and became one of the most successful playwrights of late Victorian London.

The Canterville Ghost is a very popular short story by Oscar Wilde, and the plot took place in an old English country house. In this story Wilde mixes the macabre with comedy, ancient English prophecies with funny symbols of contemporary  American consumerism, which make you  laugh.
But on the other hand some dialogues are also very deep.
I especially like the dialogue between Virginia (one of the members of the American family)  and the ghost. She takes him seriously. At first she couldn't understand the old prophecy painted on the library window :

"When a golden girl can win
Prayer from out the lips of sin
When the barren almond bears,
And a little girl gives away its tears,
Then shall all the house be still
And peace come to Canterville".

But the ghost explained it to her :
"They mean, he said sadly, that you must cry with me for my sins because I have no tears. You must cry with me for my soul because I have no faith. If you have always been sweet and good, the Angel of death will come to me. You will see terrible things in the darkness. Evil spirits will tell you terrible things. But they can't affect the purity of a little child.

At the end, Virginia understands what Life is and what Death signifies, and why Love is stronger than both. She with the gohst travels from life to death and returns back to life, and understands everything especially what love means.

A very nice short story to read on the terrace before sleeping...
