K

Flix, a charming village from Catalunya (Spain) preserves strong, and very nice traditions. Carpets at Corpus Christi day.

MontCM.

Flix, a charming village from Catalunya (Spain), preserves strong, and very nice traditions, which are held throughout the year. Some of them take place in spring, in Holy week, and also at Corpus Christi day.
Corpus Christi is a Christian celebration that honors the Holy Eucharist. On this day, the inhabitants from Flix design, make and decorate very beautiful carpets on the streets.

Children are actively involved in the decoration of the carpets.

Early morning the carpets are already made. Everything is ready for the procession in the afternoon.
In commemoration of the last dinner on the day before Jesus' crucifixion, many Christians around the world receive communion on this day.

The Sacraments and other holy symbols are designed on the carpets.

The sources from Flix are also decorated, in this case with white carnations, potted plants and carpets with floral designs. Every year is different. The inhabitants from Flix  have been making their carpets in armony, cooperation and peace for many decades.

A beautiful carpet decorated with musical symbols.
Flix has a long and strong musical tradition, many inhabitants enjoy music singing in choirs, playing in bands and local groups, learning music and playing instruments at the local music school, and organizing concerts of all kinds of music throughout the year.
Flix has preserved the catalan tradition of singing "Les Caramelles" in the streets on Eastern Saturday. The singers and musicians dressed in regional costums sing and play popular and catalan songs standing under balconies. They perform the time when singers visited farmhouses, masies, and  houses announcing the good news of Christ's Resurrection. In exchange for the news people give to the singers and musicians eggs, chickens and hearty dishes.
During la festa Major (greater celebration) in August, and in summer many outdoor concerts of different genres of music, and dances take place in some squares, outdoor tracks, and of course in the church, and in the beautiful castle with stunning views over the river, and the charming village.

Exploring the old town from Flix, is a nice way to know its rich history, and strong traditions.

If you come to Flix in spring, you'll find many roses in the gardens, fruit trees in bloom by the field, strong traditions (during Holy Week, Corpus Christi,  St John...), many concerts and sport events also take place at this time; and if you like enjoying nature to walk through Sebes Natural Reserve, it will be specially a pleasure in the morning, or at sunset.

THANK YOU FOR READING.

Tate Modern, London, a large area for artistic creativity.

It was an autumn morning, and I was wondering myself how could spend my short free time before coming back to my city.
It was raining all night, but at dawn the clouds were slowly vanishing.
I checked my tablette and I found a short but determinant e-mail :
¨Try the Tate Modern" -someone wrote me-. I thought about it some seconds and I finally decided to go there.

The Museum was on the other side of the city from where I was, but I found it very easly.
It's located on the banks of the Thames river, and the gardeners were planting trees in front of the building when I arrived. I was also very happy when I saw a great signboard that said : free admission.

Yes, the admission to Tate Modern is also free except for special exhibitions.

This Museum was at the biginning of a power station which was converted into a gallery by two Swiss architects Herzog & De Meuron.

In addition to the extensive and varied contemporary art exhibitions that can be admired, I specially liked the stunning turbine hall, 35 metres high and 152 metres long.
The turbine is a dramatic entrance and display area (when I visited it some dancers were training for an exhibition of contemporary dance), and the old boiler house and the redundant oil tanks became the galleries.

Finally, when I was taking my tea, and enjoying one of the best views in London on the level 3, my Iphone rang :
Someone wanted to meet me in order to know more details about my short stories :
Niebla de Oriente.
